Visualizing Your Family Tree

I was playing with a family tree visualization tool and here is a graphic of the 947 descendants (that I’ve identified so far) of my 5th great-grandfather Peter Billow. All those pink dots at the top are his daughters that I’ve not done the descendancy for – yet. I knew that I haven’t done that work, but visualizing the tree this way allows you to see where you might have holes in your tree.

Cool graphic, right? And, think of it – we all have 128 fifth great-grandparents. Boggles the mind.

It’s pretty easy to use and has some useful feature which can help you catch discrepancies in your tree, like catching whether you have relatives who are listed as marrying too young, or children outside of normal child-bearing years, or if their ages are “suspiciously large.” An explanation of the tool is here:
